Interior Designer at HollandGreen
Seána graduated with a first class honors Degree in Interior Architecture from Sligo’s Institute of Technology, located on the north west coast of Ireland where she grew up. During her five years of study she spent one year on an Internships with a construction company and Architectural firm . This included 6 weeks on site with Sisk construction shadowing the main contractor who was delicately working on the restoration and extension of the Niland Gallery, a building of high importance and historic significance in the local town. For the following 11 months, she interned at the forward thinking Hamilton Young Architects where she learned the importance of local topography, the effects of the sun path and wind stream and how they can affect the internal environment of any building.
After completing her degree she set about putting her tools to task and began freelancing, completing a small number of residential projects. However, following the economic downturn of 2008 Seána took the bold decision to follow her dream and relocate to America with her 3 year old son to seek out the fast paced and high end design possibilities of New York. It was here she was introduced to the fantastic intricate mind of Aaron Kirsten, lead designer and owner of Boutique Interior Design firm Habilis Design who taught her the possibilities in design when your mind is free from practical constraints.
Having achieved her goals in New York, Seána relocated to London to join Jones Lambell, a high End residential Architecture and Interior Design firm working on single family homes. It was here that she learned the intricacies of bespoke design and the level of detail required to ensure that the interiors and architecture blend into one holistic design. She refined her understanding of technical interiors, detail design, FF+E specification, how lighting plays a key part to successful design and the importance of clear communication with the architects, contractor, client and suppliers.
It was these key skills that led Ben Holland and Stephen Green to entrust Seána with the task of kick starting the Interior Design team at HollandGreen, a high end Architectural firm who deliver inspirational, insightful design, transforming their clients’ lives by creating wonderful living spaces. HollandGreen specialise in high-end contemporary new builds and extensions, and sympathetic renovations to period properties, as well as undertaking specific projects such as barn conversions, basements or swimming pools. They also have extensive expertise working with Historic England on listed buildings and within conservation areas. Working side by side, the Interiors and Architectural team have a holistic design approach from the first initial meeting, through feasibility concept design and onto tender and construction by devising a structured and well considered process to help the client understand their design options.
Seána’s personal belief is that no design is solely her own; it is the result of a collaborative process with the design team and, most importantly, the client. This is this reason why she encourages the clients’ involvement from the outset, helping them to visually define their Personal Design Language and maintaining open and clear communication at every stage, from the technical Interior Architectural design through to the Interior decoration and FF+E Design. This leads to a complete and well considered design that captures the clients’ passion and combines it with the essence of the space.
