Case Study: Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London
Working with client (Red Squared) and foodservice consultant (Edge-PM), Iglu were asked to create a marble lined refrigerator as the showpiece element of this fantastic new refurbishment of the new executive lounge on site. The client wanted a custom made unit to fit into this new concept luxury lounge area within the hotel and our unit had to match the surrounding interior.
This particular unit had to be made in two sections due the weight – each piece 750kg each. In fact, a regular lorry with tail lift was unsuitable for this project so arrangements were made for a HIAB to lift the units to kerbside, then un-pack and, utilising hydraulic equipment, slowly begin the install process.
It proved a challenge for the install team, we had to source a commercial stair walker capable of taking the weight – and even with this a slow, methodical approach was needed as the marble cladding was very expensive and we could not allow for any breakages as the site would be opening in a matter of days.
The project’s timescales added to the pressure. Design time had drifted, which led to Iglu having a very tight window to produce the unit(s) from the approved drawing stage. Despite this, Iglu took up the challenge working with the stone company, designer and contractor to deliver the marble unit with days to spare.
Iglu offered a unique custom solution on this occasion that quite possibly not many other manufacturers could have achieved given the deadlines to be met. Viewing it as an excellent project to be a part of, it was one Iglu felt they just ‘had’ to be involved in and were pleased to rise to the challenge, creating the ideal solution for such a prestigious client.
